Travis d’Arnaud out until Tuesday.

Mets Manager Terry Collins stated before this afternoon’s game that starting catcher Travis d’Arnaud will be sidelined until Tuesday with a bruised left elbow. D’Arnaud was injured on the elbow when he was struck by a pitch, by Cleveland Indians reliever Zach McAllister. D’Arnaud initially stayed in the game after the hit-by-pitch but then departed the following half-inning. His injury is not considered serious, as x-rays taken on his elbow were negative.
Kevin Plawecki is starting at catcher this afternoon for the Mets, and he is now expected to get the start in the series opener against the Phillies tomorrow evening.

Final Recap: Mets 6 – Indians 5

The New York Mets (4-5) defeated the Cleveland Indians (4-4) tonight at Progressive Field by the final score of 6-5 . For a full boxscore recap follow the link below…
Game Notes:
- Bartolo Colon got the win tonight throwing 5.1 innings and only allowing 2 runs on 8 hits. He struck out 5 while only walking 1. With tonight’s win Colon is now tied with Pedro Martinez for second place on the all-time Dominican-born pitcher’s win list with 219.
- Michael Conforto was 2-5 with a solo home run.
- Alejandro De Aza was 3-4 with a solo home run and a double.
- Yoenis Cespedes was 3-5 with a 2-run home run. He was a triple shy of the cycle.
- Neil Walker was 2-5 with a 2-run home run. It was his first home run hitting from the right side of the plate since 2014.
- Jeurys Familia got his 3rd save of the season by getting a tough out in the bottom of the 9th. Familia allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 0.1 of an inning.
- The Mets hit a season high 4 home runs tonight but were 0-10 with runners in scoring position.
Well that was about as close of a game the Mets could have made it. In the bottom of the 9th with the Mets leading 6-2, Addison Reed gave up a base hit to Jason Kipnis, recorded 2 outs, and then allowed a 2-run home run to Carlos Santana. Terry Collins went to Familia after the Indians cut the Mets lead to 2 and it became a save opportunity. Familia then allowed a hard hit single to Yan Gomes, threw a wild pitch to Marlon Byrd which allowed Gomes to advance to second base, and a bloop single to Marlon Byrd that drove in Gomes. Familia then walked Juan Uribe which put him in a bind with runners on first and second base, and two outs. After a Dan Warthen meeting to the mound Familia buckled down and retired Indians outfielder Jose Ramirez to end the game. It sure was an intense inning but it was a great display of Familia’s character who has now pitched 4 games in a row, to come in and finish this game despite how difficult that inning proved to be.
The Mets bats came alive tonight in Cleveland and one can only wonder if this 9-game roadtrip was just what the Mets needed to get away from New York, with all of the negative energy being spewed due to their slow start. The Mets were great with the long ball tonight slugging four home runs but still struggled with runners in scoring position going 0-10 despite them having 14 hits. That is an area the Mets will need to continue to improve on as the month goes on. The only questionable move of the night was third base coach Tim Teufel sending Alejandro De Aza from first to home with no outs in the top of the 8th, on a base hit that rolled towards the center field gap. It cost the Mets a run that inning as De Aza could’ve scored from third on a passed ball later that inning during Michael Conforto’s at-bat.
All in all a solid win tonight for the Mets, despite the scary 9th inning, and it’s great to see the bats come alive especially facing arguably the best starting rotation in the American League. The Mets will face a rusty Josh Tomlin tomorrow afternoon who has not pitched since March 29th due to rainouts. It will be a critical game in this series with the Mets sending their ace to the mound in Matt Harvey to face Tomlin. The Mets will want to work counts tomorrow, and make Tomlin work hard and throw as many pitches as possible. We have seen what a long layoff can do to a pitcher a la Steven Matz earlier this week. The Mets will have an even tougher challenge Sunday facing the 2014 AL Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber, which makes tomorrow’s game an important one in the series.
- The Mets will play the Indians in the second game of their three game set tomorrow afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 4:10 pm et. The game can be seen on WPIX.
- Matt Harvey (0-2, 4.63 ERA) will take the mound for the Mets opposing Josh Tomlin (0-0, 0.00 ERA) who will be making his season debut for the Tribe.
Mets Tidbits

- Jacob deGrom who has been dealing with a right lat injury threw a 25-pitch bullpen session this afternoon in Port St. Lucie instead of flying to Cleveland as originally expected. DeGrom is expected to throw one more bullpen session on Sunday with more intensity, and then a decision will be made if deGrom can make his next start or if he will be placed on the disabled list. DeGrom has also undergone an MRI on his right lat. If deGrom is cleared to start he will make his next start sometime next week against the Phillies. If he his placed on the disabled list his stint will be backdated to April 9th making him eligible to come off the DL on April 24th.
- Yoenis Cespedes is making his first start as a DH this season for the Mets as his legs are still sore from Wednesday’s dive into the stands on a foul ball.

Final Recap: Mets 2 – Marlins 1

The New York Mets (3-5) snapped their 4 game losing streak this afternoon by defeating the Miami Marlins (3-4) by the final score of 2-1. For a full boxscore recap follow the link below…
Game Notes:
- Logan Verrett was fantastic this afternoon pitching 6 scoreless innings, while only allowing 3 hits, walking 2, and striking out 6.
- Kevin Plawecki drove in the lone Mets runs this afternoon with a 2-run single in the bottom of the 7th. He finished the afternoon 1-2 with a walk.
- Asdrubal Cabrera was 2-3 this afternoon with a run scored.
- Wilmer Flores who received his first start at 1B this season went 1-3 with a run scored.
- David Wright was 1-3 this afternoon with a walk, and now has reached base safely in 17 straight games dating back to last season on September 20, 2015.
- Jeurys Familia got the 5-out save for the Mets this afternoon allowing 2 hits and striking out 1.
Today’s game began much like many of the Mets games have gone over the past four games as Logan Verrett was pitching a strong game against the Marlins, and the Mets offense could not get anything going against the Marlins starter Adam Conley, who struck out a career high nine batters. The Mets had Conley on the ropes in the bottom of the fourth inning after they loaded the bases with one out, but in early season Mets fashion Wilmer Flores popped out to first base and Asdrubal Cabrera struck out swinging. The Mets however cashed in on their opportunity in the bottom of the seventh when Kevin Plawecki drove in Wilmer Flores and Asdrubal Cabrera from third and second base on a base hit, that he attempted to stretch but was thrown out at second base. Speaking of Wilmer Flores, he had a great game at first base today and looks like a natural defensively at the position. Flores ability to play all over the infield will be an asset for the Mets as the season goes on.
There were a few moves that I did not agree with today by Manager Terry Collins but ultimately they did not lose the game so it is a moot point now. However I did not agree with Collins pulling Verrett out after the 6th inning as he had been cruising and was only at 85 pitches. It was tough to sell me on him being pulled in that position as Collins has an overworked bullpen and many of Verrett’s pitches and innings were stress free. I disagreed even more with him bringing Jim Henderson on to relieve him in the top of the seventh as Henderson threw 34 pitches last night and struggled. Predictably Henderson loaded the bases again like last night and was removed for Hansel Robles. Henderson looks to be getting overworked early and it will be something to keep an eye on. Hansel Robles came on in relief in a bases loaded situation with no outs, and immediately struck out the two batters he faced, and Collins pulled Robles for Jerry Blevins. Robles was upset and I can’t blame him as the Marlins could not catch up to anything he was throwing and he seemed primed to get out of that inning. Blevins got the Mets out of the jam by having Dee Gordon fly out which saved a very questionable inning managed. Familia came on in the bottom of the 8th pitching for the third day in a row and was asked to get a five out save. He retired Stanton but then allowed back to back base hits to Martin Prado and Justin Bour, which drove in Chrstian Yelich who had reached base earlier in the inning. Familia buckled down and retired the next four batters with ease but I believe it’s too early in the season for the Mets to be overworking Familia; especially having him on the mound for a 5-out save attempt on his 3rd straight day of work in the middle of April. Terry Collins wanted this game badly it appeared and he did avoid the sweep, hopefully the day-off tomorrow provides some much needed rest for the bullpen. The Mets will head to Cleveland next which will match up arguably the two best rotations in baseball against one another, which should make it a fun series to watch.
- The Mets have an off-day tomorrow but begin a 9-game road trip starting in Cleveland on Friday. The Mets will play the first of three games against the Indians on Friday with first pitch slated for 7:10 pm et, and can be seen on SNY.
- Bartolo Colon (0-1, 1.23 ERA) will make his second start of the season against Indians righty Cody Anderson (0-0, 3.00 ERA).
DeGrom to attempt to throw side session Friday

Mets Manager Terry Collins has stated that Jacob DeGrom will meet his teammates on Friday in Cleveland following the birth of his newborn son on Monday night, and attempt to throw a side session. If deGrom is able to complete his side session with no issues he will rejoin the rotation and start next week in Philadelphia. However if his right lat is still an issue and he can’t complete the bullpen session, the Mets will place deGrom on the disabled list and he will be backdated to April 9th. Logan Verrett will most likely continue to assume deGrom’s rotation spot in the event that deGrom is not healthy enough to pitch.
