The St. Louis Cardinals will make a three-game trip to Citi Field beginning tomorrow to face the New York Mets in a battle that will certainly have ramifications on the Wild Card race. Here are a few things to know ahead of tomorrow’s game.

  • The Mets and Cardinals currently will both enter play tonight behind the Miami Marlins for the final Wild Card spot. The Mets are a half-game behind the Marlins, while the Cardinals are a full game behind the Marlins.
  • This is the first meeting between both teams this season. The Mets went 3-4 against the Cardinals last season, splitting a four-game series at Citi Field. They will meet again in St. Louis for a three-game series August 23-25.
  • Yoenis Cespedes holds a .368 average against the Cardinals in nine career games played. It’s his second highest average against any opponent with a minimum of 38 plate appearances.

  • Asdrubal Cabrera enters play against the Cardinals in a current 0-32 rut with runners in scoring position. If Cabrera were to go 0-37 with RISP he will match the all-time Mets record which is held by infielder Greg Jefferies and pitcher Tom Seaver.
