Where are they starting?

I wanted to take a look at the top ten prospects in the Mets farm system according to MLB.com, and see where they will start the season, where they are expected to finish the season, and the likelihood they are a factor with the big league club on a scale of one through five. An impact rating of five means they very likely will be up with the Big League club this season, and an impact rating of one means it is very unlikely they will be up with the Mets. An obvious rating of zero mean no impact will be made at the MLB level. Click the jump for the following ratings on the Mets top ten prospects according to MLB.com.

BLUE JAYS: RHP Roberto Osuna, RHP Arnold Leon, RHP Ryan Tepera, LHP Randy Choate
METS: LHP Sean Gilmartin
RHP BARTOLO COLON: Is making his fourth start in Grapefruit League action today.. Allowed eight runs on nine hits over 5.0 innings in his last start on March 18 vs. Washington..
YO!: Yoenis Cespedes has hit in 10 straight spring games…He is batting .464 (13-28) during that stretch… Overall, Cespedes is hitting .419 (13- 31) with two doubles and six RBI in 11 spring games…He has struck out just three times…Cespedes went 3-4 last night vs. the Yankees.
JUAN LAGARES: Is batting .391 (9-23) with five runs scored, one triple, one home run, six RBI, five walks and three stolen bases in 12 spring games.
DILSON HERRREA: Hit .364 and reached base seven times to lead Colombia to a WBC qualifying tournament win…He hit an eighth inning go-ahead home run on Sunday to lift Colombia to a 2-1 win over Panama.
Final: Yankees 6 – Mets 3

The New York Mets fell to the New York Yankees at Steinbrenner Field tonight by the final score of 6-3. For a full box score recap follow the link below…
Game Notes:
- Steven Matz struggled tonight pitching 4 innings and allowing 5 runs on 7 hits. He also had 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. He currently has a Grapefruit League ERA of 8.31
- Yoenis Cespedes had a great day offensively going 3-4 with an RBI double. He is hitting .419 this spring.
- Curtis Granderson was 2-4 with 2 doubles and 1 run scored.
- Alejandro De Aza was 2-4 with a run scored. He is also hitting .419 this spring.
- Johnny Monell who is vying for a roster spot was 2-3 with 1 run scored.
- Hansel Robles pitched a scoreless frame, allowing 1 hit while striking out 3.
This was the uneven start that Steven Matz was not looking for after his comments, following his last appearance against the Miami Marlins. Matz who was visibly upset after his last appearance, stated he is looking for results at this point in Spring Training, and he possibly could’ve been pressing in that tough five-run, second inning. Matz seemed to settle down as he retired the final seven hitters he faced before departing after the 4th inning. This serves as a reminder to not only Steven but us Mets fans that he is still a rookie in this league and he is going to have some bumps along the way. It is important for Steven to not get too high and not too low on any particular start this season, as he will take his bumps and bruises along the way just like any other rookie pitcher will. At this point in Spring Training, Steven should want to continue his growth process at the Major League level and understand what is working and what isn’t. The results he is looking for will come hopefully sooner than later, so it is important for Steven to stay positive as he has proven he can pitch at the Big League level already. Yoenis Cespedes is having himself a great spring and I can’t wait to see what he will bring to the Mets over the course of a full season. Cespedes raised his Grapefruit League average to .417 and hit a long RBI double off of Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman this evening.
- The Mets head to Dunedin, Florida for a 1:07 pm et contest against the Toronto Blue Jays tomorrow afternoon. The game will not be televised but can be heard on WOR 710 AM.
- Bartolo Colon will take the hill for the Mets opposing Blue Jays right-hander Aaron Sanchez. LHP Sean Gilmartin is also scheduled to pitch for the Mets tomorrow afternoon.
Mets featured on cover of Sports Illustrated

With all of the hype surrounding the New York Mets young arms heading into the season, they receive some more notoriety with being featured on the cover of the 2016 Sports Illustrated Baseball Preview issue. This is exciting to see although there is the dark cloud of the Sports Illustrated cover jinx that has followed the Mets in the past. Let’s hope that we can reverse our fortunes this season with the jinx and ultimately win a World Series.

Above The Mendoza’s 2016 MLB Predictions

I provided my 2016 MLB predictions through Mets rose colored glasses. I predicted winners of each division, winners of each playoff round, and the ultimate winner of the 2016 World Series. Many of these division races will be close throughout the season, which made it even harder to predict division winners. I also have provided predictions for individual awards for the 2016 season. Check out how I believe the 2016 season will shape up after the jump. Continue reading
Luis Carpio will miss 2016 season.

The New York Mets have announced that minor league infielder Luis Carpio recently underwent surgery to repair a tear of his right labrum. The procedure was performed by Mets Medical Director Dr. David Altchek at the Hospital for Special Surgery. He will miss the entire 2016 season. Carpio had a .304/.372/.359 line at rookie league Kingsport last season. The 18-year old was ranked as the Mets 7th best prospect by MLB.com heading into this season.
