A list of players that are expected to travel and play in tomorrow’s Spring Training opener in Viera against the Nationals, has been posted in the Mets clubhouse this morning. Notable players include, Michael Conforto, Wilmer Flores, Juan Lagares, Ruben Tejada, and Kevin Plawecki. Rafael Montero will also be getting the start on the mound. Look for more of the regulars to be on the field for Friday’s opener at Tradition Field. The rest of the roster has been posted after the jump. Continue reading

Should Mets sign Pedro Alvarez?

Pedro-Alvarez-Home-Run-Derby.jpg

Pedro Alvarez to the Mets? It may not sound as outlandish as it seems. Truth be told, the slugging first baseman is still on the free agent market looking for a home. As Opening Night is quickly approaching, it wouldn’t be a bad idea for the Mets to kick the tires on the 29-year-old slugger. Continue reading

Don’t forget about Rafael…

monteroweb1s-1-webRafael Montero may be a pitcher in Mets fans distant memories. Unfortunately injuries and a plethora of young hurlers tended to shift away attention and dim Montero’s star. But it wasn’t too long ago many Mets fans were wondering where this young hurler would slide in the rotation, as he had all of the makings of a future top of the rotation-starting pitcher. 162916303-0

Will Alfredo Despaigne be the next Cuban superstar to make the jump to Major League Baseball? It is a legitimate question, as arguably 3 out of the 4 top players that were on the island have defected recently in pursuit of obtaining a Major League Baseball contract. Continue reading

Mets Lineup Preview…

The Mets will begin playing Spring Training games next week, and it is never too early to start looking at the projected Opening Day lineup. Terry Collins had floated this lineup around back in January, and I believe this lineup makes the most sense. Below I put together what the Opening Day lineup might look like, and the player’s statistics of hitting in that spot in the lineup last season. Continue reading

yulieskigourrielworldbaseballclassicmexicoolhphtmpmjex.jpg

Yulieski Gourriel is regarded as the best player in the world who is not playing in Major League Baseball. All of that is about to change with Yulieski and his younger brother Lourdes defecting from Cuba a couple of weeks ago. Continue reading

Mets Relievers Season Preview

jeurys-familia

The New York Mets will go into Spring Training with 5 bullpen sports already secured. There are a number of candidates that will be battling for the last 2 spots available. With Tyler Clippard gone, and Jenrry Mejia banned for life there will be a couple of opportunities for the taking in the bullpen. With relievers it can be so tough to predict as sometimes you never know what you will be getting from season to season. The Mets have a few young arms in the bullpen, which hopefully will be an area of possible growth for some of these guys and not regression. I will be taking a look at the 5 players who are already locked into a bullpen spot, and then discuss who’s in the mix for the last 2 spots in the bullpen. Continue reading

Mets Outfield Season Preview…

The Mets have a great problem on their hands with an abundance of quality outfielders at their disposal. After the resigning of Yoenis Cespedes, the Mets went from having a good outfield to having a great outfield. How Terry Collins decides to manage the playing time and matchups will be vital to this team’s success. Everyone in this group brings something different to the table, and I believe that is what makes this group of outfielders special. Along with the pitching staff, this group of outfielders will be a big factor in how this team performs both offensively and defensively. Continue reading

Mets Infield Season Preview…

mets-reds-baseball-2

The Mets will have a drastic new look on the infield this upcoming season with the additions of Neil Walker and Asdrubal Cabrera. With the departure of longtime Met favorite Daniel Murphy, and having Ruben Tejada, as well as Wilmer Flores solidifying a strong bench, it will be interesting to see how much better this bunch can be.
